Unity in Diversity.
Orastie is called "Brothers" in the Saxon dialect, and "Broos" in German, "Szászváros"(City of Saxons) in Hungarian, and "Saxopolis" in Latin, names that show cultural and ethnic diversity specific for any Transylvanian city with history. Excavation cemetery "Bemilor Hill X8" marks the presence in the 9th century of a steady population of Slavic Christianity from the West. Between the 11th and the 12th centuries it is built the first Christian edifice of stone, the Rotonda of Orastie.
In 1206, the diploma issued by Andrew II of Hungary shows the arrival of the first Saxon settlers  in Waras (the old name of city), starting with the construction of the first fortifications in Orastie. A few years later, a new degree recognizes the presence of indigenous Romanians (Blachi) and Pecenege, and is being emphasized the sharing of forests and waters with the Saxons, under a single royal judge (iudex regium) and a council of 12 jurors (cives jurati), elected from among the local guilds.
The welfare of Orastie under the protectorate of the Hungarian monarchy is threatened in 1241, when the Mongol invasion of Europe is taking place: Buri's horde conquers Sibiu, Miercurea Sibiului, Sebes, Orastie and Cenad in two weeks, causing great destruction and loss of life, and determines Bela IV of Hungary to repopulate the area with new settlers. In1309 is being built first church of Franciscan Order on the site of the present day monastery.

Orastie seat.
In 1324, Charles Robert of Anjou notifies Orastie that it will be raised to the rank of city, leading to a population growth based on population welfare in the area: the 1334 census certified 344 puffs (civilian housing), a public bath, four housing nuns and two schools. From the same year is the first evidence of the Orastie Seat (de sede Waras) in a document issued by the Seat of Sibiu. By the end of century it's being recorded the existence of 19 craft guilds in Orastie, the most important being: the Drapers, the weavers of wool, the weavers of cloth, tightly regulated in terms of product quality.
